4 years, 1 month ago4 years, 1 month agoI doubt it, as it is a worn example, just from a layer we usually do not find vertebrate specimens from. I am sure it was passed on to the CMM several years ago.

4 years, 2 months ago4 years, 2 months agoNot really. The rays here in Maryland tend to just get grouped together under very generic names such as Myliobatis sp. Rather then adding an incorrect name, I went with blank 🙂
-
@sadie-mills guessed ray! It is different form other rays I’ve seen. I am very familiar with genera that are loaded up with species that may or may not be that assignment.

4 years, 2 months ago4 years, 2 months agoI truly doubt it. We did work with Adam Osborn to use the specimens from this location to validate the new name for the species found down in Florida on the Peace River

4 years, 2 months ago4 years, 2 months agoI know and understand the current idea of its name/family line. As they change almost daily, I do not choose to change labels. The next step will be all labels will read Shark.sp

Genus changed to Carcharodon (direct ancestor of the Great White)

Carcharodon is correct. I cannot do anything with Shark.sp. I can correct the names but it would be too much work. If it is close (like Isurus in this case) I will fix it, but not Shark.sp

4 years, 2 months ago4 years, 2 months agomost of the items I had photographed 2 years ago have been donated to the Calvert Marine Museum, so cannot redo the photos with scale markers or add to the images anymore. In tryig to keep the house from becoming a museum, I tend to donate or give away most of what I find.

Hi, @mellwood – interesting specimen, any idea what it is? Maybe @vperez has some insight. Talk to you soon, Jen
