They look like bones. Possibly parts of a scapula or perhaps hip girdle. It also looks like these werr
-
sorry were burnt.
-
Burnt?
-
Im not sure. I wondered if they had been burnt in one those big fires you get over there. The fossils looked very dark.
-
The color on this fossil is common throughout the east coast when it comes to cetacean bone, I’ve always believed it to be sourced from darker iron oxides but I have not researched it. This bone is likely from a cetacean, hard to be sure on what part though I’d bet skull bit though scapulae have some similar looking parts.

Could be a bone very very old?
-
👀
-
some kind of vertebrate! all i can tell you is that it is not a plesiosaur or mosasaur one, i don’t know much about bones.
-
@monica-murray this is a vertebra from a rather large fish (Tuna sized)
-
Thanks!

Summerville Dorchester county seems to have mostly has marine fossils. This one and the next could be from a plesiosaur or a basilosaur. From what I see if the sizes they could be juvenile.
-
Hi do you know a good place to find amonite
-
This is also a fish vertebra, likely considerably younger than both plesiosaurs and basilosaurs, more like oligocee-miocene aged!

I checked for you. These could be mastodon molars. Mammoth teeth are large with lots of ridges like a washboard.
-
mastodon!
-
I am jealous! That is bad ass specimen! ( and definitely died w more teeth intact then. I will!)
-
Very nice tooth!
-
@monica-murray looks more like a gomphothere to me (older and rare), but I might consider showing it to a local paleontologist to confirm (it also may have some scientific significance). The Boesseneckers tend more towards whales, but they are a pair of paleontologists in the area I can put you in contact with if you’d like!

-
@monica-murray this is a vertebral centrum from a small-medium lamniform shark!

I dont see serrations so I dont believe this stunning tooth is of the tyrannosaur group and also doesnt look like my mosasaur specimens. Is it possibly a crocodile tooth. I am green with envy and would love to hear more from our intern?
-
@monica_murray This is a worn tooth from a cetacean (whale or dolphin). Nice find!

Wow! Thank you Mason. What a beautiful find.

This looks like a really nice specimen of a crinoid stem. Check Google images.
Maybe crinoid stem?
this looks similar to a crinoid but it doesn’t have some of the horizontal patterns so i’m curious on what this is
