Looks like a sand dollar, it’s probably modern
Thanks, I’m looking for a field guide book focused on petrified material, bone and shark teeth mostly, any suggestions?
I second the weathered sand dollar
look like a fossilized sand dollar
The lack of 5 pointed symmetry (or something derived from 5 pointed symmetry) do not suggest an echinoid. South Carolina is well known for sharks teeth and marine mammal bone fossils. This may be the epiphysis of a juvenile marine mammal. This website has pictures for comparison and an explanation of what they are: https://www.fossilguy.com/sites/calvert/calv_vert.htm#cookie
