I have found tons of small pieces of petrified wood so that would make sense. The cartilage looking lines are what threw me. Thanks @bill-heim

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoImprint in fossilized shell or coral. MDEQ website has the most info available on the types of stuff your finding. I’ve hunted there for years and the state just doesn’t have extensive research on these areas.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoI have found a few like this in Pearl River County along the Wolf River. I believe it is a type of coral. The ones I have looked like footprints until cleaned. I’ll post pics of mine tomorrow and compare them. Almost all fossils found in that area are fossilized corals.;) hope this helps

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoIt looks like old sun bleached bone. I carve animal skulls for a living and a lot of the pieces people give me are barn finds that have set out in the sun. If it feels slick and chalky, it’s a piece of bone. It will flake and you can scrape it with your nail and leave a mark. I’ve had to chunk a few pieces like this.
