By “ox tongue” I think they were referring to Gasteria glomerata, a type of plant that goes by the name due to its resemblance. But when you look at photos of the ox tongue plant, they don’t have the pattern of lines that your fossil has. I think what you have is some kind of filter-feeding ocean organism. Greetings @richard-hallett and @a-trilobite ! I’m a little in the fence as to what this is. The image of the reverse side of your specimens causes me to believe this is some kind of mineral formation. It could be a fossil, but I leanings towards a mineral formation at the moment. I’ll do some more research to test that hypothesis.
