Hi Jennifer,
no this is actually one specimen but the images are quite bad. That is something that we uploaded as a test as part of our first PaleoBlitz or digitization workshop in 2016. It is in my personal collection but maybe not worth to remain in the myFossil collection, qualitywise and informationwise. You can not really get any good…[Read more]

Hi, Ronny – I think this specimen is fine to remain on the website. It can still be useful to others interested in the taxon or region.
The blank specimens are likely a result of draft specimens from the previous upload process. We recently migrated all of the data to a more uniform and up to museum standards database. This new system does not…[Read more]

4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoHi, @rleder – I’m going to add a note on your specimens if they are reposited at the Florida Museum. I appreciate the information on the images but want to make sure it is attached to the occurrence information as well. Let me know if you have any questions, Jen

5 years, 2 months ago5 years, 2 months ago@rleder Hi Ronny. I was going back through old forums and thought I’d update my previous answer about the Cincinnati Museum Center status. The museum is open finally! It’s been open for a month or so now. However, they are only able to install exhibits in stages so only a few new exhibits are open (and none of the old ones). They are revam…[Read more]

6 years, 3 months ago6 years, 3 months ago@sachin-kania, @rleder, @egardner I agree with Ronny about using Rewoquat or similar material. If the clay % is very low I would not expect much success in maceration but it is worth a try.

6 years, 3 months ago6 years, 3 months ago@rleder or @jkallmeyer – any suggestions for Sachin on this problem?

well first you need to dry the sediments by using a drying oven, that will open up tiny pores and cracks, then use the tensides we (Jack and I) already recommended in a former blog (like Rewoquat). If this isn’t working you will need to work with the good old mechanical methods … btw best greetings to El and Jack

Thank you sir for your kind suggestion..

Hi @jkallmeyer, I added your feedback to the article forum here: https://www.myfossil.org/forums/topic/methods-paper-focus-stacking-and-photogrammetry-santella-milner-2017/#post-29123. Thanks for your input! Perhaps we should do a feature on budget-friendly technology options for photographing specimens?

6 years, 8 months ago6 years, 8 months agoI’m interested to learn this bit of news, @george-powell! There is some controversy among fossil preparators that Elmer’s glue is not good for certain kinds of fossils. I wonder if @jkallmeyer, @rleder, or @rnarducci could chime in here? I’m curious if it just depends on the preservation circumstances, or something else?

As an undergrad I took a paleo course from Steve Stanley. He was very much into structure-function, and our first assignment was drawing a live clam’s descent into sediment. He had informal debates with Bob Bakker that were legendary. Of course, Bakker loved debates, and would hold hallway discussions with anyone.
Geez, reminiscing is…[Read more]

6 years, 10 months ago6 years, 10 months ago@bostickkw, @rleder, @egardner It looks much like some of the primitive sponges we have in our Ordovician rocks. I don’t know about modern bryozoans but the Paleozoic ones have very small zoecia. This seems to have very large openings relatively speaking. You might research sclerosongia and see what you can discover.
