Robert Knisel has contributed specimen mFeM 92152 to myFOSSIL!
Greetings @robert-knisel ! This looks like Lookout Sandstone. There are some characteristics that resemble small coral structures, but it’s not definitive. @j-bauer and @nathan-newell may be able to determine if it’s a fossil or rock.
Hi, @robert-knisel ! I agree with @matthew-gramling , I don’t see anything definitively coral with this, but maybe I’m wrong. But what’s the crease in the side? Does it come apart? And do you know what the label said? It’s very mysterious. 😄
Please put images of the same item in the same specimen posting.
sorry but i don’t understand what you are asking me to do Bill
Thank you for the input @nathan-newell !
Greetings @robert-knisel ! I believe that your specimen here is probably sandstone from Lookout Mtn or a similar geological feature from the surrounding the Chattanooga area. I assuming you have no other piece of the label, correct? Also, does the label contain a personal name of the original collector? To me it reads: by W. Res…le ..dy Chattanooga …det 1890.
It looks like it was split and the fossil is inside just like @nathan-newell was trying to say. Sandstone concretion can contain some fun fossils inside!
