4 years, 4 months ago4 years, 4 months agoThank you. There seem to be quite a few horn coral and crinoids but occasionally one can find a unique piece. Especially now that Lake Michigan is so high and eroding places that haven’t seen daylight in years. Thank you for your help.

4 years, 4 months ago4 years, 4 months agoYes maybe a rock. It seemed heavy in contrast to the others… What ever it may be it will make a great accent stone for homemade jewelry. Thank you all for replying. And Yes, the horn corrals ❤️

I’m not sure, But maybe it’s coprolite (fossilized poop)
-
@robin-loggains It looks like a rock to me but the piece to the right of it is horn coral.

Hi, @Robin-Loggains! Could you post a clearer photo? Unfortunately, it is hard to make out the structures in the current photo. It could be an oddly weathered rock, but right now I cannot tell.
-
It looks like a coral or a sponge, but i’m not a professional myself

@Mackenzie-Smith – this almost looks planty? however, I suspect it is a coral, perhaps growing around a crinoid stem (the star indent) which would make sense coming from Lake Michigan! Very cool!

@robin-loggains and @samantha-ocon Personally, I’m leaning towards septarian nodule with the original matrix eroded out but it’s a tricky one.
Oh! Good point – the only thing I’m noticing is the tiny little star at the bottom
