Very nice finds, @pam-plummer! Thank you for sharing! Have you taken individual photos and posted these finds in the Fossil Gallery? Oh, and a quick tip: including something for scale, like a pen or a quarter, would make your image even better 🙂
-
I have better fossils I can post as soon as they’re prepped!
-
Awesome! Thanks, @pam-plummer! Looking forward to seeing your prep work!

some of the recycling bins that you can earn in the recycle program work great for the fossil activities that I brought I back from our workshop.

Thanks for a great workshop!
I really enjoyed the learning and working opportunity with everyone. My students are excited about the fossils.

Terrific! Glad to hear that your students are psyched about the fossils, @cindy-birkner! When do you plan to start utilizing them in your school year?

I think that @george-powell has used Elmer’s glue to stabilize his fossils. We use a special glue here at the museum. @vperez do you have any good ideas?
-
There are a number of different consolidants that could be used. Our museum website has a page with some helpful information https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/vertpaleo/amateur-collector/preparation/

The shelly critters from the Paleozoic can be wrapped in toilet paper to stop from knocking around in bags or containers- this is usually what I do. Or just fill any void space in a container with toilet paper so that they can’t move around.
-
A couple of readily available options are Duco cement which can be purchased on line at Walmart or in many hobby stores or super glue. Dilute either of these about 1 part glue to 5 parts acetone and paint it on the fossils. Diluting the cement ensures it is carried into the fossil locking everything down.

6 years, 7 months ago6 years, 7 months agoHi y’all,
I want to tell everyone again how much I appreciate their help through this PD. It was an amazing experience and one I will learn from for years to come and cherish the memories made through this last week.
The look on my daughters’ faces were priceless as I pulled out each fossil from my bags. I think I’ve started a thing 😉

Still don’t see the photos. Did you click “Add Photos” after you uploaded them?

I’ve been working on the image attachment bug. You can now scroll down on this page and see Stephanie’s images posted.

Awesome! Thank you Max. Although, I noticed this doesn’t seem to apply to all the groups? Is there away to apply what you’ve done to all groups? For example, @bmacfadden attempted to post a photo in the Paleo Tutorial group, which showed up in the activity feed on the homepage but isn’t visible within the group page.
-
Good news/bad news situation. Good news is there is only 23 instances of this bug in the database. The bad news is the bug manifested as saving all the image attachments as activity updates instead of as group updates with the group id. So I’m going through the posts and comparing the date to the user’s activity on that date and making changes…[Read more]

@skillingsworth – The first picture looks like it may be a ray dermal scute, but it’s hard to tell. I’m not sure about the long bone. The last two images are a shark centrum (vertebra).
