3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHey @santino-diaz! Silica crystals can form in the crack of fossil matrix on rare occasions. I took a look at your specimens, but I am afraid I don’t see any thing that looks like its a fossil.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi there, @santino-diaz, awesome find! If you could upload pictures of this specimen from different angles and with a scale for reference, that will help with the identification process!

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi, @Santino-Diaz! I believe this is a sandstone, and those teeth you are seeing is mineral growth in a blocky habit. Using a tool like https://macrostrat.org/ might help you figure out what kind of rock it is and how old it is.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi, @Santino-Diaz! This is a limestone, but the cool thing about limestones is that they are often made of the calcium carbonate shells of sea animals! This could be made of many microscopic plankton shells, from organisms called foraminifera.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi, @Santino-Diaz. This seems to be a limestone boulder. This is not a head; however, there could be fossils of shelly things, like clams and sea urchins within it!

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi @Santino-Diaz! I am thinking this is limestone, based on the texture and irregularity of the specimen. You can use https://macrostrat.org/ to look up the rock units around you and figure out where this came from.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi, @santino-diaz & @daniel-park – I agree with @colefossilfinder-blitz too! I think it’s just a rock, it is a really interesting shape! It’s certainly not fossilized bone material, it would have a much different texture and appearance.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months ago@santino-diaz I would have to agree with @colefossilfinder-blitz that this is just a rock, a cool looking one still! I’d like to verify if we are correct though, so @jbauer and @sadie-mills could you check this picture out? Thank you!
