No way to tell once they’re broken, sorry!
😔thanks @chloe-geddes. Can you help me identify some rocks and minerals? I don’t have clues or locations from where they came…
I can try, if I don’t know I’m sure someone else on this platform will
@chloe-geddes can you tell how many years it takes to be that size?
🙏
Now that is a top dollar question! The short answer, is no. One can use the flow bands in cave rock similar to rings on a tree, HOWEVER, not every cave is the same. For example the rate of flow depends a lot of precipitation so a cave in a dry climate will have a different years per band then somewhere in the tropics. There is a lot that factors into this but if you knew the cave then you’d have a slim chance. Scientists will often measure flow and precipitation rates in order to relatively date features in caves.
That way very long winded, sorry!
It makes perfect sense what you’re saying. 🙏 thank you
And is it possible to know about the nature of it and about the crystallized part on the back?
the average stalactite/stalagmite grows around 1 cm per century, but that is a rough estimation so it can be much more or much less.
