Seems to be flakes of mica.

Not a fossil
-
Quartz.
-
Not quartz, it would be white
-
@a-trilobite quartz comes in every colour imaginable because of its crystal structure it is susceptible to trace elements for example Smokey quartz is from radioactive material and the closer it is then the darker the quartz will be. However this is
-
A quartzite so a rock made up of a bit of small quartz grains welded together
-
@chloe-geddes I honestly thought all quartz was white until now.
-
@a-trilobite Haha! Thanks I’m glad I could clear it up for you! Quartz is the mineral of MANY names. Not only can it hold trace elements but also water so there is a whole slide bar sort of scale of what to call it if it is this percentage of water. For example chalcedony has a decent bit of water which makes it not as hard as quartz but opal h…[Read more]

Some kind of coral
-
I concur. And according to Rockd it’s from Mississippian strata.
-
@matthew-gramling in that case, it’s probably a plant root fragment, possibly a horsetail
-
That will be difficult to substantiate I’m afraid. Spickerts Knob and Edwardsville Formations as well as Borden Group are all deltaic and marine strata.
-
Thus, I think your first ID is correct.
-
It actually looks more sponge like with that hole pattern
-
Possibly. I’ll have to see if there is anything on the biostrategraphy of those formations.
