3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoThank you everyone. I really feel uneducated so Can I ask why this is a great find? What’s great about it? I love it because it is so different than anything I’ve ever found. The colors the weight is heavier it’s really just eye catching. I would appreciate understanding more. I am going to research more rutilated quartz, the ark you@daniel-park

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoThis rock is very heavy for the size. I can palm it in my hand, colors of rust, brown, army green, but the inside is sparkly almost a lavender color. What is this?

Hi, @Sonja-Wichern, this is possibly a sandstone or a quartzite, which can both be very heavy.

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoUnsure what this is. It’s extremely clear or see through with gold color ribbon throughout rock. It has some rainbow spots. It look like there could be silver in it. It’s magnificent. When I show people they’re curious where I came upon it. Found where I live. Was told is could be quartz with ore. But I seriously know very little about rocks…[Read more]

It’s a quite unique type of quartz, with rutile mineral “needles” stuck inside it. It looks very cool!
-
It’s also used in jewelry, and interestingly while many gemstones’ quality goes down with inclusions like this, this type of quartz is prized for the needles of rutile mineral, which can look gold or silver.

Nice find!
