Could we get pictures from some other angles? Not seeing anything which suggests it is a fossil but want to make sure before I say anything definite!

@leannah-nl nice find! I believe this is a brachiopod called Strophomena. You can use the taxon wizard to help you get that into the classification box. Use the app rockd to see if you can find out the age and the name of the rock formation in which you found it. then you can add that information to the lithostratigraphy and geochronology section.

i think you found a dino bone

How do I go about finding out for sure?

Use macrostrat.org and put where you found it in. it will tell you the age of the area, so you can see if dino is a possibility. @mason-hintermeister might be able to help. great find though eleven if not dino, the preservation is fantastic.

@gail-chapman I agree with Corinne though you might want to use the app rockd to look up the age and formation. I think this is actually a mammal bone. I’ll see if I can find any similar types. Nice find!

Mississippian and Pennsylvanian

oh nice. im from new york near Albany. that you have there is chert its not a fossil but it was used by Native Americans to make tools like axes and arrowheads
