3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoFound several very similar to these. Very interesting that they’d come from the Cooper River. We had a beach renourishment about 3 years ago,and I’ve been VERY fortunate to find a variety of really nice teeth and fossils. Thank you so much.

Hi @susan-white, these are both teeth from the Great White Shark, Carcharodon carcharias. 1) upper anterior tooth and 2) lower anterior tooth. @rboessenecker @lcone do either of you know what age / formation teeth from the Isle of Palms would be?

Nice teeth Susan, and very nice to have both an upper and lower. Finding it on Isle of Palms, it is likely transported down the Cooper, or washed up from off shore. I would guess the age could range anywhere from maybe 4 Ma. through Pleistocene.

@vperez or @bill-heim can you help with ID here? Thanks!

Hello, the three serrated teeth are from the Great White shark, Carcharodon carcharias. I think the non-serrated tooth is the ancestor of the Great White, Carcharodon hastalis.

First off, you need to lighten the images. There are any number of free image editors (including one or more that came with your computer) that can do that for you. I put the images on my desktop and lightened them. So what you have are 3 species from three different ages. Upper left is Carcharocles angustidens from the Oligocene, lower left…[Read more]
