      Hi, @Susy-Quinn, I think this is a river rock that has partially been weathered by moss growth.

    I’m sorry, I guess I don’t know the correct verbage here. What I meant was how does one expose the fossil itself? I’m assuming it wasn’t found clean and “exposed” like this.

      Hi! your best bet is to use a dremel or airscribe. While a vinegar bath can dissolve the sandstone it will also dissolve the fossil shell, so your only option is mechanical removal.
