Hard to tell from this image but it’s not likely that it is an egg. Where did you find it? And about how big is it?
-
It is about the size of a baseball. An old man over 90 found it on his farm many years ago. In South Kentucky near Cumberland River
-
Very heavy?
-
I am thinking that by the way it looks like and it’s shape it could be a canyon ball or a weight of some sort does it have any holes or paterns anywhere in it’s surface?

I’m thinking it’s a horn corral, but I guess it depends on where it was found. Cool fossil, though! 😁
-
I agree with @nathan-newell that it looks like a horn coral to me. A location would help us narrow down time frame and potential species.

Excuse my typos

Hi, @suzanne-laytham – it seems like this specimen is recorded twice – in two different groups. Is there one you would like to keep in your specimen collection and another we can move to stay in the group? Let me know if you want some help filling out information on our online platform – myfossil.org. Talk to you soon, Jen

Any help is always appreciated, stroke survivor but doing good!

Hi @suzanne-laytham! This is probably a rugose coral (horn corral). These fossils probably predate any vertebrates with large claws. This is also a marine environment so we’re more likely to find marine organisms.
-
Mackenzie, that is cool. I find a of crinoids too

This is probably another concretion. Like your other hollow one I posted on.
Thank you
Hi there! Potatoes are very young evolutionarily (like less than the past 50 million years, ie after the non-avian dinosaurs) and the rocks in that part of KY are several hundred million years old (older than the oldest dinosaurs and before any flowering plants). I’ve definitely seen blogs dedicated to “potato fossils” but the reality is these are…[Read more]
Thank you Mackenzie for the info and lesson!
