Hi there, @tauno-stark, this is a cool find! Could you upload different angles of the specimen with a scale for reference to help narrow down the ID?
-
this looks like horned coral but don’t quote me on that lol.

Hi there, @tauno-stark, uploading different angles with a scale for reference could help narrow down the ID! @jbauer might also have an idea about its ID!
-
Hi @tauno-stark – it looks like this may be a very weathered coral. It’s hard to tell what kind, based on the shape of the corallites (circles, where the coral polyp lives) I would guess a rugose coral – these are the same animals that form the Petoskey stones.

@jbauer, any ideas on this Michigan fossil?
-
Absolutely, @sadie-mills! @tauno-stark this looks like a very weathered tabulate coral!
https://www.digitalatlasofancientlife.org/learn/cnidaria/anthozoa/tabulata/You could update your classification to be Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Cnidaria, Class Anthozoa, Order Favositida.
