5 years ago5 years agoHey guys, for those of you interested in upgrading the website. The prices including URL and HOSTING are: $5/mo, $60/1 year or $108/2 years. This is for the personal site, which lets you have .com and .org, etc. There is a cheaper version, but the extension of your URL will be .blog. However, that is the only difference and you get the same…[Read more]

5 years, 6 months ago5 years, 6 months agoHello, I just wanted to encourage all of you who might be interested in signing up for this newsletter:
It is a great way to know how 3D scanning and 3D printing is being used, specially in science. Great resource for students as well. They don’t spam you and I believe you can decide how often you want an email from them.

5 years, 6 months ago5 years, 6 months agoRegarding Peanut Festival: Art is going to Montbrook tomorrow at 8am in the van. We need extra hands to collect 10 bags of matrix and allow for time to dry. Please let me know who is able to help. Thanks-
-
Do you know when we would be returning?
-
Probably by 11. We can ask Art if any other stops are planned and maybe see what the plan is for allowing the matrix to dry.
-
I just checked with Art and he said before 11, no extra stops except for gas on the way back. The more people that goes and helps collect, the faster we can get 10 bags. Depending on how many can help, there is a chance to comeback earlier than 11.

this is a belemnite unsure what species though
@smudge-smith Yep! It’s Belemnitella americana.
amazing it hasn’t broken. when I find mine they always break
@smudge-smith These little guys are from a creek site, so often they’re a little more robust as the more fragile specimens are winnowed out.
OK yes. mine are from chalk
yours is amazing… I may post mine in a bit. you don’t happen to know about belemnite species because I don’t know species of mine. no worry if not
Oh yeah! That makes a lot more sense. The creek cuts through a series of glauconitic marls and clays, so the preservation process is a little more friendly to the fossils that chalk would be.
@smudge-smith I bet we can get pretty close. When you post your specimens include as accurate locality data as possible and I’ll get back to you with what the scientific literature says for that area. I’m a mammal guy, so I just ID’d the specimen by what species has been identified by others from the site.
hi @smoran did you say mammal guy? I have an unknown tooth from yarmouth iow and I’m desparate for ID ill send in a bit
@smudge-smith sounds great! I’ll try my best…much more familiar with North American mammals but we’ll be able to get some ID on it.
