@bill-heim could help ID
-
I think is a mosasaure tooth
-
I must say it does look like mosey tooth
-
but I know its not
-
This is a badly repaired Otodus obliquus from Morocco. Mosasaur? Not even close and depending on the species the enamel portion can be up to 3 inches long. See: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=mosasaur+teeth&iax=images&ia=images and for Otodus: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Otodus+teeth&t=ffab&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images
-
mosasaur teeth are quite different. this tooth is quite easily seen to be from a shark. mosasaur teeth had a rather different shape, but most of all a different root. @noah-haumann many mosasaurs had quite big teeth. one that l own is the length of my thumb, as big as a great white’s
-
@leonardo-miranda damn, i didn’t know that
-
it’s not great white, it’s from a bull shark
-
@timothy-king then its a Full 5cm tooth, its a otodus tooth

-
bill heim is the resident master of tooth identification
-
Wait what this post says it was posted 3 minutes ago and it says you replied an hour ago @leonardo-miranda lol
-
But to answer the question @bill-heim and @vperez are great at identifying shark teeth.
-
@daniel-park that’s real weird. on my side, it says the post is 4 hours old.
-
or maybe l just have great foresight
-
a little meditation in the Himalayas, @daniel-park , and eventually all of space and time is in your hands

Hi @noah-haumann it is kind of difficult to tell from the pictures, but this looks like a stone with chips in it! Hard to tell what the dark mineral is! Do you have any information about where it was found?
-
@mackenzie-ross-2 No i dont have information of where the rock was found but I know that the Black part i flint

3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoHello, i went out for a walk and saw this, so can anyone explain what it is? #fossil
-
Chert?
-
@noah-haumann this does look like a lovely piece of chert! Chert is a sedimentary rock that comes in many colors. Fun fact, it was often used by ancient, indigeneous peoples as the main stone used to make hand axes, arrow heads etc!
-
is it worth keeping @mackenzie-ross-2 ?
-
@noah-haumann as an avid rock, mineral, and fossil collector, I believe that anything that brings you joy or knowledge in your collection is worth keeping!

Just a rock
-
With erosion lines
-
yes
-
@smudge-smith which means what?
-
erm, meaning that it’s a rock with erosion lines
-
@leonardo-miranda im from Denmark and I cant translate that word
-
oh, sorry. erosion is when rock has marks on it due to being rasped away by other rocks or also water.
-
I mean I agree with @a-trilobite
-
Hi there @noah-haumann this is indeed a rock with erosion lines! Sometimes interestingly shaped rocks can appear to look like fossils! One trick is to look for the mineralization that occurs with fossilization! Or, if it is a trace fossil (an imprint of a fossil), usually the fossil isn’t “carved” into the rock like these erosion lines, but rather…[Read more]

It looks like a Bull shark’s tooth. Potential a hammerhead but I’m leaning towards the Bull.
-
@bill-heim could help in identifying this tooth.
-
Definitely NOT a hammerhead, serrations appear too coarse for a bull shark unless it is a small juvenile. A scale and location would help.
-
@bill-heim i dont know where its found since i got it as a gift 🙂
-
Thresher shark tooth
-
Thresher sharks do not have serrations, other than the very rare Alopias palatasi which this is not, so no.
-
Just saying🤷🏻♂️

Rock with mineral inclusions, sorry not a fossil
-
@mackenzie-ross-2 whats this?
-
@noah-haumann like @bill-heim said, this does appear to be a rock with mineral inclusions! A fun specimen, but not a fossil!
-
@mackenzie-ross-2 wait, im not that good at english tho, but I understand it to be a rock with either minerals in it or a rock with genes of minerals?
-
Yes, @noah-haumann, the main yellow part is rock, and then all of the differently colored portions are minerals that have mineralized/crystallized into the rock! Hope this description is helpful!
-
@mackenzie-ross-2 wow, thats hecking cool, thx for the help

Greetings @noah-haumann !!! I would say so. The Knox Group here in NWGA has chert deposits for making flints. vert similar color to the one you have here.
