1 year, 2 months ago1 year, 2 months agoWhat I do recognise, was actually the first fossil I found 7 years ago. At the bottom right of the picture is a c.10,000 year old plant root. Nothing that looks lien petrified wood in this shot. I can’t confirm that though. Still not a palaeontologist.

1 year, 3 months ago1 year, 3 months agoI concur with Charles, this feels like a very classic example at a mosasaur jawbone from a reptile in its youth. Still, I am not a palaeontologist.

1 year, 3 months ago1 year, 3 months agoThis looks like the imprint of a Gonatite, however I can’t be completely sure as I am not a palaeontologist.

1 year, 9 months ago1 year, 9 months agoMy friend sent this to me and asked if it was a fossil. I initially thought it wasn’t but I thought it would be best to check.

1 year, 12 months ago1 year, 12 months agoI bought this two years ago and know it’s 50MYO but I am unsure of what type of fish it is.

Looks like knightia from the green river formation. https://geology.com/articles/green-river-fossils/fish-fossils.shtml

Thanks 👍

I concur with @corinne-daycross. I would go further and say this is Knightia eocaena Jordan, 1907. There are 2 species of Knightia commonly found in the Green River Formation of Wyoming. K. eocaena and K. alta. K. alta has a deeper belly.

looks like knightia maybe

Really nice specimen. I’m a bit envious of all the findings people are posting. It’s truly a wonderful learning experience for me. Thanks

Nice finds! If you post them individually with pictures from multiple angles with a scale (coin or ruler), add location and classification info, and use Rockd to figure out the lithostratigraphy and geochronology, I could mark them research grade!
