Interstate Through Time: The Fossil Discoveries of I-71 (OH)

June 5, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Over 50 years ago, construction began on Interstate 71 through Cleveland’s west side. As the dozers hit the ground, they uncovered a hidden treasure: giant armored fish skulls and mummified sharks buried for 360 million years. Lee Hall, Fossil Preparator at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, takes you back in time, then really far back in time when Northeast Ohio was flooded by a shallow tropical sea. Half a century later, I-71’s fossils continue to surprise and enlighten!
