6 years, 8 months ago6 years, 8 months agoHey Jeanette @jeanette-pirlo,
I wanted to make sure you got my receipts and to ask how I go about uploading all the photos and videos of the PD. Also were the professional photos posted anywhere? Id love one of the group for my power point presentation. If you have time in the future to look at my presentation to give me feedback I would love it.…[Read more]

Also were the professional photos posted somewhere? I would love to have some of the group shots for my presentation I am giving to fossils…[Read more]

6 years, 8 months ago6 years, 8 months agoHi everyone.
I had such a wonderful time at the PD. I cannot thank you all enough for all the things I learned, the fun I had, all the laughter and all the new friends I made and the project I am now working on that has taken on a life of its own. That week was definitely a once in a lifetime experience although I do hope we do it again. And…[Read more]

I think that @george-powell has used Elmer’s glue to stabilize his fossils. We use a special glue here at the museum. @vperez do you have any good ideas?

There are a number of different consolidants that could be used. Our museum website has a page with some helpful information https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/vertpaleo/amateur-collector/preparation/

The shelly critters from the Paleozoic can be wrapped in toilet paper to stop from knocking around in bags or containers- this is usually what I do. Or just fill any void space in a container with toilet paper so that they can’t move around.

A couple of readily available options are Duco cement which can be purchased on line at Walmart or in many hobby stores or super glue. Dilute either of these about 1 part glue to 5 parts acetone and paint it on the fossils. Diluting the cement ensures it is carried into the fossil locking everything down.
