7 years, 1 month ago7 years, 1 month agoFound this in 2013 on the ridge that makes up the amphitheater at Big Bend Recreation Area, West Virginia. There is a spot along the ridge that is very rich in these assemblages of brachiopods, bryozoans, and bivalves. This particular specimen is mainly brachs and is a limestone; I’m still looking through my old field book for notes on the lithology so hopefully I’ll get that ID, I’m also hoping if someone can ID the species of these Brachiopods since that is not my strong suit.
Hi, Zachary, did you ever find your old field book? The rock looks Ordovician-Silurian in age to me based on the fossils but it’s always hard to tell from photos. Here is a brachiopod guide for the Ordovician: http://www.ordovicianatlas.org/atlas/brachiopoda/ It is for the Cincinnati region but many of the families and genera are similar.
