Don’t mean to be rude. Are you sure this is from the Peace River? Virtually all specimens I have seen from there are black or dark grey. Also the coloration and species type looks more like a Lee Creek tooth. The Hawthorne formation is typically late Miocene and this variety of Carcharodon has pretty much disappeared by then and was replaced by the thinner C. plicatilis type tooth. I am not saying you are incorrect, just double checking.

Hello @bill-heim I bought this tooth off of someone who claimed they found it in the Peace river near Zolfo Springs. I understand your skepticism as it does not resemble some of the Carcharodon teeth I’ve found myself in this area. Concerning the color of this tooth, some of the fossils from the Peace River that have just eroded from the bank have lighter colors similar to those from Bone Valley, as they are not stained by tannic water yet. The shape and thickness of this tooth is still unlike anything I’ve seen from this formation, so you don’t have to mark it as research grade.
