My friends father gave this to me years ago. He said it was a dinosaur bone. Can you confirm that and be a little clearer if it is true?  Thank you very much. Found in the USA is my best info.

    • Using USA as location has little value. It is too general. Narrow it down. In most of the US you will never find Dino Bones. Knowing location will also give clues to age of object.

Photograph your specimen on a neutral background without patterns. Avoid using the flash option on your camera. Do your photography out side. If sunlight is too bright make a tent out of a white sheet. Do the picture taking inside the tent. You will get more even lighting. Take a few general photos from all sides of the object. That way you are making it easier for others to understand what you have.

I see the approach you are using often on Facebook. The posts often lack details other than some generalized statement Like “I found in creek”. The photos often lack clarity. Clarity is showing the whole object from different angles, along with well chosen detail photos. Shown as a group.

      Bone tests:
There is the lick test. Not a perfect test. Burn test, contemporary bones burn and smell like burning bone. Weight, dino bones tend to be heavier than contemporary bones of same size. Because of minerals filling in and replacing parts of the bone. No matter how old a bone, they all have the same general bone structure or floor plan.

    • I found something similar is it heavy?!

    • Yes it is heavy. 1 lb. 4 oz. for the size it is very heavy.

    • Since I cannot post better photos here I will start over and try to do better. I’m obviously new here. I would love for this to work out. I apologize for the inconvenience. Sorry guys.

    • this is a very complex Picasso of a rock. All sorts of different rock and mineral layers clashing in different directions. there’s a suspicious looking patch just to the right of that streak of rock across the middle, and it looks like it might be bone. apart from that, this mass is probably mainly rock

    • Thank you David
