What is it? from the myFOSSIL app 3 years, 1 month ago 3 years, 1 month ago3 years, 1 month ago? From deep in the ground when a ditch was dug for a pipeline. It appears to have the usual pattern and matrix of horn coral.
Can you post close ups? This app needs to allow for multiple pics…
@j-r-3 if the item is added as a specimen you can add multiple pics. From the app click on the image and there’s an edit button. Works similarly on the website. It’s if the post is as an image directly to group or forum the option is not available.
Looks like caliche which is calcium carbonate cementing together sand and gravel giving it a lumpy appearance. Very common in Deserts. Not a fossil.
Do you see the helix/matrix though? Open Y at the top, twisting into one stem down one side of the stone. What IS that? It is not coincidence and maybe someone else has wondered about and studied the same thing?
