Theft from museum and other heritage collections do occur, unfortunately. The Collection Theft and Security Monitoring Group of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) will post information about stolen fossils here to alert our community. Hopefully, together we can identify, locate and help recover stolen fossils. To learn more the scientific value of collections and educate others to reduce thefts, see Importance of Collections. We will also share information to help identify objects that are either documented as stolen or which appear to be museum objects via characteristic labels, marks, or preparation methods.
