UAB graduate student Drew Gentry along with Jim Parham, Jun Ebersole and I just published on a new species of late Cretaceous sea turtle named Peritresius martini. It was named after amateur paleontologist George Martin from Auburn, AL who collected and donated the specimen that is designated the holotype of the species. George donated the fossil to the Alabama Museum of Natural History.

In addition to Peritresius martini, George also has a Paleocene crab from Alabama, Stevea martini, named after him!
