4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoI really enjoyed this workshop and learned a ton from the instruction by the myFOSSIL team, as well as the input and suggestions from so many of the participants. Things were so jam packed in the scheduling each day that some of the fantastic conversations during the discussion sessions could not be fully developed. One in particular dealt w…[Read more]

Hi, @corinne-daycross – you can update your classification to at least be Kingdom Animalia > Phylum Mollusca > Class Gastropoda.
Also, if you want to add in the geochronology & lithostratigraphic information you can use macrostrat to get to where we were collecting: https://macrostrat.org/map/#/z=10.6/x=-82.3217/y=29.7107/bedrock/lines/Talk to…[Read more]

Hi, @corinne-daycross – We can update your taxonomy to be Kingdom Animalia > Phylum Chordata > Class Chondrichthyes > Order Carchariniformes > Family Hemigaleidae. I bet if you use the website and use the taxon wizard and type in Hemipristis serra it will populate them for you so you don’t have to manually enter in the information.
If you…[Read more]

Hi, @corinne-daycross – I think we can minimally add in Kingdom Animalia > Phylum Chordata > Class Chondrichthyes > Order Myliobatiformes but will tag in @vperez and @fauve-wilson as the local experts.
The formation should be Coosawhatchie, group is Hawthorn and the age is Phanerozoic > Cenozoic > Neogene > Miocene [correct me if I’m…[Read more]

Everything you said was entirely correct @jbauer ! It kind of looks like a fragment of Aetobatus (the spotted eagle ray), but I can’t confirm it from this photo, so the most appropriate ID is the Order Myliobatiformes.
