What is it? from the myFOSSIL app 2 weeks, 3 days ago
2 weeks, 3 days ago2 weeks, 3 days agoPeople: PLEASE do your research before coming on this app and trying to identify fossils or asking to be ID’d. Me and many others are tired of people posting on this app saying the normal rock they found is a dinosaur egg, or people thinking that a tortoise shell is a giant oyster. It’s irritating and you are providing misinformation to ama…[Read more]

2 weeks, 3 days ago2 weeks, 3 days ago@catherine-fean This is not a jaw of any kind. Can you please do your research before trying to ID fossils? It’s irritating seeing you commenting under every fossil naming it something completely absurd. I have yet to even look for fossils but I can ID better than you. Do better.

2 weeks, 3 days ago2 weeks, 3 days agoLooks like bone, but it could be coral. If your hands are sweaty, your fingers would slightly stick to it if it was a bone. If it’s clean, you can lick it to find out!

2 weeks, 3 days ago2 weeks, 3 days agoThat is not coprolite, let alone from dinosaurs. Those are sanded rocks. Please stop thinking every fossil you find is a dinosaur. They most likely arent.

1 month, 3 weeks ago1 month, 3 weeks agonice find! unfortunately those arent teeth, they’re horn coral. an easier way to tell the difference is that teeth fossilize with the root (the longer part), teeth dont fossilize that eroded, and are usually darker in color. if those boxes dont check out, its most likely a horn coral!

What I look for first is symmetry and repeating texture. Look at images of parts of living things. Bones and teeth have a natural symmetry. Rocks do not. They are usually irregular in shape. Shells and things like coral have repeating textures. Soft tissue has a one in a billion chance of fossilizing. Take a steak out of your freezer and…[Read more]
