Need help identifying this. I inherited this and would like to know what it is.
Just a guess: some sort of crystal. Take it to major gem and mineral show – but don’t sell it!
To me, it seems like a bone because it is two pieces that interlock.
@melissa-krause I’ve never seen bone interlock like that. I have seen some mollusks that do this. Particularly ammonites – this could be an internal mold but it’s hard to tell. Maybe @mackenzie-smith @samantha-Ocon and @jeanette-pirlo could chime in?
this looks somewhat like an ammonite suture pattern but I’ve never seen an internal mold of an ammonite before so it’s hard for me to say.
@samantha-ocon and @jbauer are correct. This is the internal mold of an ammonite.
