The main reference for this is: Manchester and Meyer. 1987. Oligocene fossil plants of the John Day Formation, Fossil, Oregon. Oregon Geology. 49(10):115-127. At the very top is Metasequoia. Below that is Quercus, oak. The modern oaks in OR are all very lobe-y so I know it sounds crazy, but come to the South and there are plenty of oaks whith non-lobed leaves. I think that’s another oak on the lower left slab. I can’t see enough in the lower right slab. The oak species is Quercus consimilis.
