My brother in law found this in Chino Hills State Park, CA and asked what it was. It’s hard to tell the specific rock type and formation it might have came from but there are marine rocks in the region, maybe quartzite. There seems to be a halo of carbon like material, maybe graphite around the structures rim. I am not 100% convinced this is a fossil, but if it is, maybe a gastropod? #fossil #collectionsite

    • Hi, @patrick-cummings-2 , I don’t think this is a fossil but rather mineral cleavage planes that are cleaved in such a way it looks like it may be a fossil. Have you checked out a geologic map of the area? There are a lot of igneous bodies in the region.
