looking for an identification of this rock. found in southern ontario, it’s crumbly and has a sparkle to it in light.Any thoughts ?

    • Seems to be some form of granite.

    • Granite is formed of quartz, but also feldspar and mica.

    • Definitely a micatious granite, it looks like it is breaking along the mica (notice all of the small black flakey bits on the floor next to it). Very cool! There are two types of mica that I can see: muscovite (clear or silvery) and biotite (brown or black). Lots of quarts and feldspar like Daniel-Park said

    • If it was in southern Ontario it is also possibly from our craton which makes it some of the oldest rocks on Earth! Very fun! Another famous out crop of our craton is the Teton mountain range in Wyoming.
