3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi @clair-m, I agree with Sam, this is a fish spine. Unfortunately, I don’t know they exact species. In the Classification field, you can put Class Osteichthyes (that’s the scientific name for bony fish). Thanks for sharing your find!

3 years, 11 months ago3 years, 11 months ago@clair-m myFossil has a goal of making the fossils uploaded here research grade! Generally, a research grade photo is agaisnt a neutral background with a clear scale in the photo! Here’s a video from myFossil that explains it well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF4dx0HHvWI

3 years, 11 months ago3 years, 11 months agoHi, @clair-m – it does look like a dolphin tooth! @lcone is certainly the toothy expert of the area and may have more info for you. Would you want to update your classification fields to refelct this? Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Mammalia, Order Artiodactyla. I’m not sure if we can go further if it’s an undescribed creature!

3 years, 12 months ago3 years, 12 months agoCool shark vertebra, @Clair-M. Macrostrat: https://macrostrat.org/map/#/z=1.5/x=16/y=23/bedrock/lines/ should be useful for narrowing down its geological age. Can we ID this, @Bill-Heim?
