Yes, this is petrified wood and it is known from MS though I’ve only heard about if from the northern part of the state. Wood is hard to ID in a practical sense because you need cellular preservation and a section that you can put under a microscope. 3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi @elizabeth-henson, it appears as if two specimen have been uploaded to this post! There should only be one specimen per post for curation purposes. The first find in this post appears to be a rock, possibly chert like you suggested. Chert is a sedimentary rock, so it can have fossil imprints in it.
