neat!

I believe this is an operculum from a gastropod (snail). Unfortunately, I’m not sure exactly which type. In order for it to be marked research grade, you will have to fill out the location, geochronology, lithostratigraphy. I’ll also need a photo of the specimen with a scale (ruler or a coin). Let me know if you need any help with these and tag me…[Read more]

@laura-gelotte lovely tooth! If you can put in the location (approximately, nearest town is fine) then I can help you out with Geochronology and Lithostratigraphy! After that, all you will need to do is upload a picture with a scale (coin or ruler) OR measurements in the dimension section. Then, if you tag me I’ll mark it research grade! Let me…[Read more]

1 year, 8 months ago1 year, 8 months agoI just read that Otodus teeth come from Morocco? These I found in South west Florida on a construction site in my neighborhood. What tooth were you referring to? In the picture I was told Megladon, great white and Maco. But Again I don’t know for sure

Where are they from? Modern or fossil?
-
Fossil. From South Florida
-
color is irrelevant. It is caused by minerals seeping into the fossil. It has nothing to do with age or animal type. Alligator teeth tend to be blunter while crocodile teeth tend to be more pointy and slender. This can vary by age of the animal and position in the jaw.

Nice find, though I fear it will be hard to identify confidently
Unfortunately it will be difficult to identify this fossil beyond vertebrate given how incomplete it is, but a nice fossil regardless!
