4 hours, 37 minutes ago4 hours, 37 minutes ago@reesie-wood these are actually cross sections of brachiopod or bivalve shells!

4 hours, 38 minutes ago4 hours, 38 minutes agoCould you take clearer pictures of both sides and include a scale (ruler or coin)? If I have that, I can figure out geochronology and lithostratigraphy from location and I can see if I can find an expert to get an ID and maybe I can get this post to research grade.

4 hours, 41 minutes ago4 hours, 41 minutes ago@reesie-wood lovely fenestellid bryozoan! Do you have a more specific location? I might be able to tell you how old it is (likely some time in the paleozoic)

4 hours, 43 minutes ago4 hours, 43 minutes ago@brenda-brass looks like sandstone with a calcite vein running through it, unfortunately not a fossil!

4 hours, 45 minutes ago4 hours, 45 minutes ago@joe-tolen nice find! Do you remember where in Spain it was found? That might help get a better age which might make the identity of this fossil clearer

4 hours, 51 minutes ago4 hours, 51 minutes agoHello @jay-kaiser, since you last posted this I have been looking for an expert I can send this to for a better opinion, will stay on that and let you know if I can get anything. It’s made difficult by the fact the teeth are not well preserved so I’m not sure which general group it belongs to.

4 days, 17 hours ago4 days, 17 hours ago@cameron-yaez I think I see what you are looking at, I can’t say I’ve ever seen a gastropod like it but this is a very worn internal mold so its hard to say for certain

1 week ago1 week agoI don’t see any structure which would suggest this is a fossil coral, looks like worn sandstone or concrete.

1 week ago1 week ago@tom-reichman lovely specimen! My geologic map says that area is mainly upper devonian, may I ask what led you to it being Dapingian in age? Not saying its wrong as my map isn’t very detailed in that region just curious!

1 week ago1 week ago@matt-griffin, off the top of my head I don’t know any man-made object that looks quite like this (but it certainly could be one) but it is obviously made of or rich in iron, I wonder if it might be a limonite psuedomorph. In any case it is not a fossil.

1 week ago1 week agoIt is extremely worn so it is hard to say for sure, especially given that the area you found it in has really mixed up stratigraphy (you might be able to figure out a more exact age by using the app Rockd). It is likely an invertebrate from the paleozoic, perhaps a straight-shelled cephalopod, or a partial crinoid stalk.
