Cameron Harper has contributed specimen mFeM 134109 to myFOSSIL!

    • The problem with this specimen is that it is not originally from Purse Park as if is from a much later time period. Most likely it was dropped by a collector. The other less likely scenario is that it was washed down from well inland.

    • @bill-heim could this one have come from Holden Beach NC? It’s possible I put this one in the wrong location container when I found it as a child. I only ever hunted at those two spots, so it was found at one or the other.

    • Holden Beach would make sense. Purse Park does not.

    • @bill-heim I confirmed from old photos that this was from Holden. Any ideas?

    • Appears to be some predecessor to the bull shark. The location of the nutritive foramen fits for a dusky, but the shape does not. Not a full fledged modern example of a bull shark as the serrations are not complete moving towards the tip. This is unlike the modern species of either. I am going to have research the age of Holden Beach as I have never been there. I would guess Oligocene but we will see. The serrations make this a very interesting specimen.
