I want to learn more about what happens under the shell. What kind of bone structure did they have and how did they eat #fossil

    • These are all invertebrates so they don’t have bones. But for feeding the brachiopod (left) has a filter feeding structure called a lophophore. The gastropod (snail) (middle) has a structure called a radula. In herbivorous species it is used to scrape algae but in carnivorous species it is used to drill through bivalves and slurp up their insides. I think it’s a horn coral on the right, would have tentacles and sting prey like an annemonie. There might also be the possibility of photosynthetic algae living inside like modern corals but that is hard to prove with fossils.

    • Thanks so much!
