Dawn Vitale has contributed a new specimen to myFOSSIL!
Hey @dawn-vitale ! I don’t believe this a fossil. If it is, it’s been heavily crystallized.
There are pictures of the other side. It almost looks like a shell
I dig deep for this one. It’s definitely not a rock.
Dug
Mathew, I have some artifacts that you might find very interesting. Is there a way to send pictures directly to you or should I just post them ?
They aren’t fossils.
But I do have detailed descriptions of them
Hi, @Dawn-Vitale, I’m tagging in @JBauer, as this one is stumping me.
I’m not sure about this one either! It looks biological … maybe it had been replaced but I’m not sure what it once was… maybe I can tag in @mackenzie-smith who may recognize it.
@dawn-vitale @samantha-ocon @jbauer I think it might be a cephalopod? Sort of looks like chambers and sutures with outside ornamentation. Where was it found?
@mackenzie-smith Newcastle, PA, so after checking Macrostrat, it’s Pennsylvanian (ba dum tssh).
@dawn-vitale @samantha-ocon So Sturgeon and Miller published on some Pennsylvanian cephalopods from Ohio but in their paper they also talk about them being in PA too. Looks like there is some shared geology. Maybe it’s in one of their two publications. Here is the link for one: https://www.jstor.org/stable/1299256?seq=1#metadata_info_tab_contents. There is a reference for the other in there.
Thank you all!
