@chloe-geddes my quartz piece. Also I learnt that a way to tell if your quartz piece is real and hasn’t been through a jewelers is that it is clear, has six sides and are always no matter what size the sides are always 60° apart. Thought you’d all enjoy that fact 😊 #fossil

    • Quartz crystal. It is not a fossil.

    • @bill-heim, these are in fact minerals but we need to know about minerals in order to be the best paleontologist we can be. What minerals fossils are replaced with can completely change a research project! Almost all fossil woods are replaced with some form of quarts just like this little crystal and a little water. However, paleo-pics should be more about cool discoveries than questions 😉

    • Anyways, very neat crystal! It you have a perfect crystal top like that there is a specific pattern that tells you what depth the crystal formed! They’re called alpha quartz and beta quartz. Fun stuff!

    • However this is a fossil site and these are ending up as fossil specimens which they are not. If you want to include them in a community that is fine, just don’t mark them as specimens.

    • thank you @chloe-geddes

    • @bill-heim take a chill pill, it’s alright. Rocks, fossils, and minerals all fall under the same umbrella. Fossils are found in rocks. Fossils turn from organic material to rock. And rocks are literally countless different minerals. So in essence, fossils are rocks and minerals. Trilobite out.

    • I don’t care if you put them in the community and have long discussions about them. I don’t care if you write articles on them. It is just when they are marked as specimens and then I have to spend my time removing them from the emuseum.

    • @bill-heim how do I not mark them as specimens?

    • Wow
