Hi @greta-stroebel Looking at Macrostrat this was probably further outside Salem, CT? Most of the nearby rocks I saw were too old or either igneous or metamorphic. This is likely a seed fern (Alethopteris if the pinnae lamina attach completely to the rachis or Neuropteris if the pinnae attach only by a midvein). Seed ferns are an extinct group and are not true ferns but have foliage that resembles past and present ferns.
