Part of an ammonite or baculite. You can see the dendrite shaped sutures that are characteristic.

Also known as a Buffalo Stone as if viewed from the top it somewhat resembles the shape of a buffalo. But it’s baculite/ammonite segment as mentioned.

Greetings all! While the ID offered seems true, there are some geochronology issues with the specimen. The area around Maple Valley is principally Pleistocene and from what I know the majority of ammonite species died out with the K-P boundary extinction event.

The Puget Group is closest geologically, but that is still only Eocene.

@Matthew-Gramling is correct in the general ages of the area. However Washington is a complete mess of stuff, and while googling I found the paper linked below, which includes baculites collected from an Island in Vancouver.
