6 years, 8 months ago6 years, 8 months agoI wanted to thank everyone for such a wonderful week. I never could have imagined the amazing friends I would meet and the experiences I had. Im still in awe. Truly.
Im putting together my “kit” and developing my materials to take on the road into classrooms and home school groups and I need some advice.

6 years, 8 months ago6 years, 8 months agoHi y’all,
I want to tell everyone again how much I appreciate their help through this PD. It was an amazing experience and one I will learn from for years to come and cherish the memories made through this last week.
The look on my daughters’ faces were priceless as I pulled out each fossil from my bags. I think I’ve started a thing 😉

Still don’t see the photos. Did you click “Add Photos” after you uploaded them?
-
I’ve been working on the image attachment bug. You can now scroll down on this page and see Stephanie’s images posted.

Awesome! Thank you Max. Although, I noticed this doesn’t seem to apply to all the groups? Is there away to apply what you’ve done to all groups? For example, @bmacfadden attempted to post a photo in the Paleo Tutorial group, which showed up in the activity feed on the homepage but isn’t visible within the group page.

Good news/bad news situation. Good news is there is only 23 instances of this bug in the database. The bad news is the bug manifested as saving all the image attachments as activity updates instead of as group updates with the group id. So I’m going through the posts and comparing the date to the user’s activity on that date and making changes…[Read more]

@skillingsworth – The first picture looks like it may be a ray dermal scute, but it’s hard to tell. I’m not sure about the long bone. The last two images are a shark centrum (vertebra).

Looks fun! Thanks for sharing, @jbauer. Were there any K-12 teacher attendees from TN? I can’t recall. Regardless, maybe @mgibson and others could share with teachers in TN and the surrounding region!

Yes, I am aware of this event and was hoping to go myself. Unfortunately, this is also GeoConclave weekend and SGE’s national convention. I have to attend the SGE event and we are sending our new faculty member to take students to SGE. I do hope, and fully encourage, Tennessee teachers to attend at least part of this meeting. I think that @george-powell has used Elmer’s glue to stabilize his fossils. We use a special glue here at the museum. @vperez do you have any good ideas?
There are a number of different consolidants that could be used. Our museum website has a page with some helpful information https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/vertpaleo/amateur-collector/preparation/
The shelly critters from the Paleozoic can be wrapped in toilet paper to stop from knocking around in bags or containers- this is usually what I do. Or just fill any void space in a container with toilet paper so that they can’t move around.
A couple of readily available options are Duco cement which can be purchased on line at Walmart or in many hobby stores or super glue. Dilute either of these about 1 part glue to 5 parts acetone and paint it on the fossils. Diluting the cement ensures it is carried into the fossil locking everything down.
