1 year, 3 months ago1 year, 3 months ago@trevor-hall that’s more than I’ve been able to find!! So, thank you!! I’ll look into that. I keep just coming back to shark teeth but I just am not convinced… I haven’t had much luck anyway. I mean, maybe they’re just rocks lol who knows. But thanks for the input !! 🙂

1 year, 3 months ago1 year, 3 months ago@ben-gurney , yes actually!! Hah, I was walking towards/ near the Mississippi in Minneapolis MN. It’s definitely a very smooth and shiny rock, it almost looks and feels waxy.

stunning ammonite!

Thank you!

@leni-c gorgeous fossil, do you have any more specific location data so I can help figure out lithostratigraphy and geochronology? Then I might be able to give you an age and a specific species after contacting some experts.

no problem man. i was finding shark at first myself, so i just checked what prehistoric species lived in my area and thats how i found the info i have. if you are able to check for the outer layer being different from the inner parts of it then its most likey a tooth

looks to me to be some kind of conglomerate, however don’t quote me there
was there many other rocks like this one, or was this the only one?
@ben-gurney thanks! Makes sense… there was other rocks, but none I noticed like this one, it just caught my eye I guess
no problem, a conglomerate seems like a reasonable idea, especially as it is so well rounded it is likely where you found it was an old river bed?
@ben-gurney , yes actually!! Hah, I was walking towards/ near the Mississippi in Minneapolis MN. It’s definitely a very smooth and shiny rock, it almost looks and feels waxy.
yeah definitely a breccia or conglomerate, it all comes down to how well rounded the rock fragments inside the matrix are
sorry don’t know a massive deal still only a geology student but here to help where I can

@leni-cc this is a pebble mostly made of chert (maybe part of a conglomerate originally, though those could just be weathered parts)
