3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agohi Samantha, I’m fairly certain it is. The house is granite and small granite stones are everywhere. But I’ll try and get a good picture of the rock

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agono I wouldn’t know how to judge. I thought it was granite but then I gather you don’t get fossils in granite

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agothank you, I realised pretty quickly that it’s beyond me getting it out at all at this stage tbh, even ignoring that I went to close. I live in mayenne France and found it in a large boulder behind the house. Looks like it was left when they were building the house, probably where the cut marks came from

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoThank you, how can you tell? I wasn’t expecting an animal. Slightly concerned now lol, as a complete newbie I had a go at chipping around it. Stopped when I realised I needed to learn more first but not before I chipped a bit. Already gutted over that without added that it might be worth something to that lol.

Primitive amphibian! Very rare for it to be so intact and could be worth thousands! Congratulations!

there are a lot of overly enthusiastic opinions on here, take what anyone says with a grain of salt. What age is the area? If it is something good, you want to take surrounding dirt out with it so it can be properly prepared later. back off what you are doing for at least a few inches and see if you can get it out safely in dirt. hopefully someone…[Read more]

Could you say what age the rock is? I researched but no specific species seemed to match, except mabey a baby eyrops, which would be extremely rare and expensive! (But unlikely)

Hi, @Margaret-Grubb, this does look very granite-y, in which case, this would not be a fossil, as granite forms in underground chambers. Closer photos of the rock itself would be useful for that determination.
