@matthew-gramling here!!! Thank you!!!!!
-
Greetings @jennifer-smith ! This is great. My best estimate is this is shark tooth fragment. I can see slight serrations on its edges. @bill-heim is once again the best person to ask on this. He is our resident expert on shark teeth and littoral fossils.
-
@matthew-gramling I didn’t see the serrations until I took the picture with the flash on! It’s super smooth to touch. So dope. Let me know what’s up @bill-heim 🙂
-
Where was it found?
-
@bill-heim Casey key, FL. Specifically a mile north of nokomis beach
-
Probably a worn piece of a megalodon
-
Thank you once again @bill-heim !
-
@bill-heim ahhhhh yeeesss!!!

-
i have two suggestions.. either a bull shark or a chubutensis shark
-
they’re very badly worn, but maybe @bill-heim can work up an identity for you.
-
Too worn to positively ID, perhaps a Carcharhinus? of some species.

the right one looks like a mako shark.. not sure though.
-
@aidan-salaz I was leaning more towards a very worn down snaggletooth shark? What do you think about that?

Found at the beach! #fossil
-
Found at the beach on western gulf coast of Florida!
-
I’m leaning towards a crocodile tooth, although it is small…help 🙂
-
Greetings @jennifer-smith ! Could upload a few more photos from different angles and if possible state the county or beach it was found at. It would help greatly with an ID.
-
@matthew-gramling I uploaded it now as a seperate post. It isn’t letting me add more pics for some reason! I’ll tag you in it now 🙂

Greetings @jennifer-smith ! You do appear to have a fossil bone specimen. Of what exactly is difficult to determine. My guess from similar posts is likely sea cow or cetacean. @bill-heim could help an ID.
-
@bill-heim help!! And @matthew-gramling thank you!! What is a source I can use to figure out how old the fossils I find are? The area that I go to it’s hard to find info about online!
-
Rockd is a great app for that.
-
@matthew-gramling downloaded!! Thank you 🙂
-
Casey Key strata dates any where from late Pliocene to Holocene. So, 3.5 million years to several thousand.
-
Most welcome! Happy collecting!
-
Not enough remains to tell what it came from.
