2 years ago2 years agoThis is a fossil I found a long time ago with my grandpa. I think it is a fish fossil since I found it near a pond, but I am unsure. Can somebody Identify this for me? #fossil
How large is this in width and height
Could be orthacone
Looks like a crinoid stem!
My first impression is orthocone as @a-trilobite suggested. Locality info is always helpful (state, nearest city or town, and the name of the pond if you have it).
@patrick-hsieh the state is Illinois and the nearest town in Bonfeild
It looks like a Crinoid
Crinoids don’t get narrow like an orthacone does
Based on your location, it looks like the bedrock has been mapped to the Silurian Period. Orthocones, which are cephalopods, are consistent with that. You can check out this website for more information: https://silurian-reef.fieldmuseum.org/narrative/429
